Why a shared name is the missing layer
Systems agree about geometry and disagree about identity. Here is the gap, and the fix.
The idea is abstract until you watch it work. Four settings, each a place where systems agree about geometry and disagree about identity, and each fixed by the same primitive: one shared name.
Every container is a named child of the ship. When the ship moves, one record is published, not ten thousand, because children never republish when only the parent moved. A crane lift is a re-parent: the container keeps its name as it changes hands. Cranes, carriers, and the yard's twin each hold authority over their own frame; the twin reconciles afterward and never sits in a control loop.
Sail the ship →A vehicle loads the static map of its route from cache and streams only what moves: other vehicles, work zones, a drone crossing overhead. It publishes its own position when it diverges from prediction, not on a timer. In a tunnel it goes to a lost-contact state and returns as itself, not as a new track. Every crossing is one name, at whatever precision each party's credentials allow.
A robot works the floors while a drone surveys from above. The drone hands an observation to the robot by name; no new identity is minted for something already known. A repair request, "the sprinkler head in the third-floor conference room, by the door," is one name the robot navigates to through the building's named hierarchy. The inspection posts back to the same name, and the building's history grows.
Enter the building →A facility carries one identity to which its exterior model, its floor plans, its laser scans, and its 3D model all attach. A re-scan next year carries the same identity, so change detection is a property of the name rather than a manual re-registration. A window seen from the street and from inside is one thing, so interior scans register to exterior models as a byproduct of naming.

Each is the same move: give the things a shared name, and the systems that already exist stop disagreeing about which thing they mean. Identity converts a one-time integration into a durable asset that every system, and every AI, can reason about together.
